Line-Up Instructions

MASTER'S

You must be in full academic dress at the ARC Pavilion by 3:15 p.m. on June 12. You will enter the ARC Pavilion through the Northeast Lobby entrance and line up behind the bleachers on the Upper Level East. You will line up in alphabetical order by master’s program. Please be on time, as the procession will begin at 3:50 p.m. If carrying a cell phone, place on vibrate or silent only. There will be hosts wearing red smocks to answer any questions and help you put the cap, gown and hood on correctly.

Guests are not allowed in the line-up area. Guests will need to proceed directly to the Pavilion through the Southeast or Southwest Concourse level and be seated.

Personal Items
Please do not leave any personal items in the line-up area. Either take them with you or leave them with your family members. (The Office of Graduate Studies is not responsible for lost or stolen items.)

Stage direction: When it is time, the Dean will call the Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) candidates and then the master’s students to come forward by program. A host in a blue robe will direct each row as to when to approach the stage. The M.F.A. graduates will lead the procession to the stage using the stairs on the right (east). When your turn comes, present your name card to the reader, who will announce you. You will then cross the stage and receive the University scroll and pin from the presiding officer, exit the stage, get your photograph taken, pass between the two flags and return to your seat.

DOCTORAL

You must be in the MAC Room wearing your cap and gown – and carrying your hood – by 3:15 p.m. on June 12. (The MAC Room is located inside the ARC – near the rock climbing wall.) Signs will guide you to the location. Once inside the MAC Room, there will be large alphabet letters, under which you will find signs in alphabetical order by faculty last name. Find your faculty presenter’s last name and stand at his/her nametag. You will find the Announcer Card with your name and degree information in the pouch directly beneath your professor’s name. There will be a General Information table in the center of the MAC Room. If carrying a cell phone, place on vibrate or silent only. There will be hosts wearing red smocks to answer questions and help you put the cap and gown on correctly.

Please tell your guests your primary faculty presenter’s last name so they will know your general seating area.

Stage direction: When it is time, the Dean will call doctoral candidates to come forward and a host in a blue robe will direct each row as to when to approach the stage. Your faculty presenter will march in front of you carrying your hood. Each major professor will then precede his/her student(s) onto the stage, using the stage stairs on the right (east). You will present your name card to the reader who will announce your name, the faculty presenter’s name, and your degree. Your faculty presenter will then present the hood and stand beside the Dean while you are invested with the hood. You stand in front of the hooding officer (the Dean) and face the audience while he places the hood over your shoulders.

After the investiture is completed, turn and shake hands with the Dean. You will then cross the stage and receive the University scroll and pin from the presiding officer, exit the stage, get your photograph taken, pass between the two flags and return to your seat.

Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership Candidates: Graduates from this program will be presented by a single professor, who is traditionally the program chair.

Faculty members who have notified Graduate Studies that they will be participating in the ceremony as an interested or retiring faculty member will meet in the main lobby of the ARC at 3:15 p.m. on June 12. For more information, e-mail organizer Henry Covarrubias.

STAGE PARTY

Invited Stage Party members will enter the ARC Pavilion via the Northeast Lobby entrance and assemble in the Special Events Room at 3:15 p.m. on June 12.
